Dietary supplement useful in the treatment of urinary tract infections (cystitis).
Dietary supplement containing D-Mannose, useful in the treatment of urinary tract infections (cystitis). D-Mannose is a simple sugar that is poorly absorbed by the human body. Taken orally, it is largely eliminated through faeces and urine.
Recently, D-Mannose has been proposed as a natural remedy for Cystitis, an alternative to antibiotics and their side effects.
Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder mucosa, most often caused by bacteria, particularly strains of anaerobes that derive from the intestinal bacterial flora. Of these, the most common and well-known is undoubtedly Escherichia coli, which is estimated to be responsible for 85% of infections.
Several studies have shown that pathogenic bacteria in the bladder are attracted to D-Mannose to which they attach themselves by means of lectins (glycoproteins similar to small tentacles).
In particular, this occurs in 85% of cystitis, i.e. when the infection is caused by Escherichia coli. D-Mannose is also effective against Klebsiella, Shigella, Pseudomonas and Salmonella.
