Pineapple is one of the most popular tropical fruits in the world: originally from South America, it is today appreciated on almost all continents. This fruit is increasingly recognized for its medicinal properties, in particular for a substance it naturally contains called bromelain, of which the stem (the central part of the pineapple, which is generally not consumed) is very rich. Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme (i.e. it digests proteins) with multiple properties, in particular it contributes to the drainage of excess liquids, helps to improve the functionality of the microcirculation and to counteract the blemishes of cellulite. The enzymatic activity of bromelain is expressed in GDU (Gelatin Dissolving Units), i.e. the quantity of gelatin that one gram of bromelain is able to digest in one hour under specific temperature and pH conditions. This parameter is essential to standardize and quantify the enzymatic activity of bromelain: a high GDU value indicates greater enzymatic potency, correlated with a more marked therapeutic effect. Generally, good quality bromelain must have a titre between 2000 and 2500 GDU/g. BROMELINE has an enzymatic activity of 2500 GDU/g.
